Here’s a part two to my vegan seafood recipes. Part one is no-cook Vegan Seafood recipes including vegan crab dip 🙂 Fried food recipes often intimidates me but these are crazy easy!

All of these fried dishes would go perfectly with my easy Vegan Ranch Recipe!!! Don’t skimp out on the dippin’ sauce.

Tip for frying: You’ll know your oil is hot if you place a chop stick or a wooden spoon into the oil. Place it at the bottom of your pot. If tiny bubbles form around it then you’re oil is ready to go.

Vegan Fried Fish Stick
I will be 100% real with you. I should have made these with hearts of palm. I made these with marinated artichoke hearts and they are just not my thing. If you love artichoke hearts then definitely use them but I highly recommend hearts of palm.

Also my vegan fish sticks didn’t get super crispy. I’m not sure if I didn’t fry mine long enough or if my inter “fish” mixture should have been drier (more bread crumbs).

1 jar artichokes (I should have used a 1/2 can of hearts of palm), 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs, seaweed flakes for flavor (optional)

batter: 1 cup flour (125g), 2 TB chickpea flour, 1 ts old bay spice, 1.5 cups sparkling water or beer

  1. Put everything in the food processor expect for batter ingredients
  2. Pulse until mixture holds shape. Use your fingers to pinch the mixture, if it holds shape then it’s done. If too wet or mushy add more bread crumbs. If too dry add water.
  3. Form fish stick shapes
  4. Mix everything for the batter together. Add the water or beer slowly. You may not need it all. You don’t want batter too thick or too thin.
  5. Dip fish stick mixture into batter then fry in heated oil til golden. ENJOY

Vegan Crab Cakes
I know most crab cakes are pan fried. You can totally do that but I already had the oil heated so I figured I would deep fry them. Ah, nothing better than some crispy patties to sink my teeth into. Epic!

Vegan Calamari
Mushrooms are pretty bland in flavor so make sure to enjoy with dipping sauce. I really, really liked the texture to these. Little crunchy bites of goodness. These are not a chewy as real calamari which I think is an improvement. Instead of peeling the mushrooms into small strips you can cut rounds out of the mushrooms then hollow out the inside to make rings.

Vegan Crab Rangoon
I’m so glad I bought that vegan nut cheese. It’s even more expensive than regular vegan cream cheese but the flavor………..SOOO RICH. I got the herb garlic flavor soft nut cheese but feel free to use whatever vegan cream cheese option you have available. You could make your own vegan cream cheese base with cashews instead. I found wonton wrappers at our Asian store that were egg free. No big deal.
